Nusra Front ‘kills Lebanese soldier’, promises more if prisoners not released

Reuters / Ammar Khassawneh

The Nusra Front terrorist group in Syria has released a video purporting to show the execution of a Lebanese Shiite soldier, accompanying it with a threat to kill another one publicly.
The video of the victim, Mohammad Hammieh, executed with a shot to the head, was shown together with a plea from another Lebanese soldier, Ali al-Bazzal, who appealed to his family to take action, or he would be next to die, Turkish agency Anadolu reported.
Lebanese media say the terrorists are offering an exchange – Hammieh’s body for 15 of their captured cohorts.
In explaining the execution, the Nusra Front said it was a reprisal for the Lebanese army’s attacks on Nusra Front positions in the north of Lebanon, in Arsal, as well as Hezbollah’s (the Shiite paramilitary group) Friday attacks.Hammieh, they said, was “the one who paid the price” for Hezbollah’s alleged role in obstructing negotiations with the Lebanese government, as well as Arsal attacks on Syrian refugees.
“Mohammed Hamiyeh is the first victim of the intransigence of the Lebanese army, which has become a puppet in the hands of the Iranian party,” the Nusra Front added.
Along with Friday’s video they also circulated a photo of the dead soldier, photo-shopped into a black coffin.
He was among the nine Lebanese soldiers who were seen in an earlier August 23 video posted by the terrorist group, following fierce clashes with the Lebanese army in Arsal last month. The fighting claimed the lives of 19 soldiers and resulted in 35 hostages – mainly policemen – being taken by the terrorist.
"In case news of our son's death is true, I blame the government for his killing because they deliberately were slow in the negotiations and were not serious about them," the soldier’s father said at a news conference on Saturday, following Friday’s Twitter reports of the video.
Friday saw a bomb attack taking place, which killed two soldiers in Arsal, resulting in a hunt for the killers. This included raids and around 200 arrests being made, according to local media reports.
Although the video was being circulated on social networks on Friday, the Nusra Front first threatened to kill Hammieh on Tuesday, amid ongoing indirect negotiations between the Lebanese government and the terrorists, mediated by Qatar.
The Al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front’s demands mirror those of the Islamic State (formerly ISIS) terrorists’. Both groups demand the release of fellow Islamist prisoners from the same facility – the Roumieh Prison, in exchange for Lebanese prisoners of war. By media accounts, 22 hostages have been taken following last month’s clashes in Arsal.

UNITED NATIONS: Washington's arch-foe Iran has a role to play in tackling Islamic State (IS) militants who have overrun large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria, US Secretary of State John Kerry said.
Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said this week that his government had rejected a request from the United States for cooperation on the battlefield.
US officials have not confirmed or denied making an offer in private, but they do not regard Iran as part of coalition they are building to fight the IS militant scourge.
Kerry said Friday that in combating the jihadist threat “there is a role for nearly every country to play, including Iran.”
Just last week, the top US diplomat had said it would be inappropriate to invite Iran to meetings seeking to building an international coalition because of Tehran's “engagement in Syria and elsewhere.”
Iran is actively supporting Iraq's government against IS jihadists, and helping Syria in its battle against both the IS group and unaffiliated rebel groups.

Possible Islamic state strategies in the face of Anti-IS coalitions

From group to staten , state to Caliphate  and extortion to oil fields Now controlling large swath of territory in northern Iraq and eastern Syria.  some call it ISIL(Islamic state of Iraq and levant) ,  Anti-IS groups call it DAESH which is Arabic Acronym for (Dulat al islamia Iraq wa sham) and Al-qaida call them Tanzeem daulah (The group Islamic state) . But now Its  Islamic state as Group declared caliphate on 29 June 2014 in its captive territories in both Syria and Iraq . when islamic state Advanced to iraqi kurdistan and taken over  predominantly Yazidi Town Sinjar on 3 August 2014  is in northwestern Iraq Ninawa Governorate From Peshmerga Kurdish Forces . most of yazidis  were displaced to mount Sinjar Near the syrian border  as refugees  .  claims they were Trapped by Islamic state fighters.  After yazidis turmoil  US weighs operation to Aid yazidis and Bombed purported  Islamic state position .on  August 19, 2014, Islamic state uploaded James Foley American Freelancer journalist Beheading  video to youtube entitled "A Message to America" In the Revenge of USA bombing on their Position. After that  Obama announced 6 point plan to eradicate  Islamic state . Islamic State has gone underground in syria even in its  stronghold raqqa governorate And iraq second largest city Mosul.  I am expecting  as  US-lead coalitions will intensify its Attack the Islamic state will withdraw from territories which are not their stronghold and Definitely will remain Underground  strongly in their strongholds since 2007 as Anbar ,Diyala , Nineveh , northern Baghdad and some parts of salahudeen. Also high chance of internal feud within other ani-government  groups .  I am expecting they will halt all of  their major operation and will wait for US-lead anti Islamic state coalition to end their war on Islamic state . During that time  Islamic state will change its war tactics from as Regular army to gorilla warfare like blowing up key bridges and  sabotage operation inside capital Baghdad with help of Activated sleeper cells and mini-ops all over regions. In Syria there will not be major changes in their warfare tactics because they are controlling predominantly sunni territories  they will halt their operation against FSA and Kurdish militias  but  will continue against Assad regime .
